It's my birthday!
Much like last year, I'm recycling my facebook post as my birthday blog post. Enjoy, as they're probably my shortest posts of each year!
I first saw this video on Drunkcyclist.com and the blog post about the video was mostly about what makes a person "rich"...money vs really living your life. Cool, huh? But then I actually watched it, and loved it. To make it even more perfect, it's actually about someone celebrating his 35th birthday with a birthday challenge.

OK, I'm not actually completing any sort of birthday challenge, unless one considers teaching all day and then going to night class a challenge, and I'll hopefully never find my lunch in a dumpster, but the message that life isn't all about bank accounts and things but rather about moments and experiences and the people who you share them with resonated with me. Here are a few of my favorite quotes:
Well, MY heroes are both the strangers who inspire from a distance with huge accomplishments and the friends who email suggesting our latest hairbrained scheme. They're my teammates and my partners in adventure, the ones who make turning 40 feel like a good start, and if you're keeping track in those terms, I'm rich indeed.

"Inside, we are all capable of surprising ourselves."
"What I want to be is happy, excited, inspired."
"I don't want to say, 'I wish....' I want to say, 'Damn, that was awesome!'"
"My heroes are my belay partners."

ReplyDelete40 is a good start, indeed! Again, happy birthday--I'm proud to know you.
ReplyDeleteI'm still kinda pissed to learn you're 10 (TEN!!) years younger than me...but everyone is so I'll let it slide. This year.
ReplyDeleteI swear I read this blog post earlier today, those quotes are things I wanted to comment about. I think I'm losing my mind. No, lost it, I've lost it. Anyway, love the quotes you pulled out and I absolutely agree. When I was dying today going up Pikes Peak, I just tried to remind myself that I GET to do this shit.
Hope you had a fantastic day, lady!! Love ya!!!
And p.s. - I was laughing so hard about the comment you left on my last post...yes, you certainly got carried away with yourself ;). I loved it!
An Audience of HeroesThe President gave his speech honoring the veterans of the Italian campaign facing neat rows of white marble tombstones.
ReplyDelete15 years in child care teaches you something about play dough along with cutting and sticking so that's just what I did! My friend Ann always buys the most perfect presents and she gave me these fantastic leaf cutters. Once it's baked glaze
the whole thing with egg white and glue on the extra baked leaves also
with egg white. Bake for a further 10 minutes.

I was wondering if you ever considered changing the page layout of your blog?
ReplyDeleteIts very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content
so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or two images.
Maybe you could space it out better?
