The agony of defeat

Well, midnight came early for our Cinderella team. The drive up to Chicago was much longer than the two ugly games it took to send us back home empty handed. And the shame of it is that we pretty much beat ourselves. It was a great season, despite the disappointing end. 26-2 and finishing in the top 8 of the state is nothing to sneeze at. Still, it's a quiet car driving home, and we're the proud parents of a disappointed 18 yr old (who probably thought he'd have the house to himself), a disappointed 16 yr old (who really wanted to win), and a devastated 7 yr old (who really wanted to stay in a hotel tonight).

  1. Sorry everyone's so sad. Loved the comment about the disappointed 18 year old! A house alone changes to everyone back home in a bad mood.

  2. I'm just catching up...so much going on these days, no wonder you're tired. But, you should definitely be proud of your boys :)

Sorry they lost...and sorry everyone was so disappointed (each for their own reason).

Time to get back to training...I do hope we get to see a before and after pic :)

  3. Awwww. I have seen that face before... on me! It happens to the best of us; games, hotels and empty houses, especially empty houses!

    That was an excellent season!

  4. Top 8 in the state is very impressive! Hopefully you gave the 18 year old a heads up so he could get everyone out of the house :-). Before Cheryl and I were married, her parents came home from vacation a day early, very late at night and I was there asleep. Had to do the walk of shame :-).

Thanks for the kind comments about my friend Dave.

  5. It was great while it lasted! Hopefully next time they'll advance even farther, if only so you can stay in a hotel and we can get that run in. :)

  6. At the end of the day, every team loses but one. It sucks. It's awesome that your kid is so into a sport. Passion in a kid is definitely worth celebrating.

  7. So sorry, but to console the sad family I would like to tell you that I am a "professional" defeated.
I am a supporter of the italian rugby team and usually we are the last in the 6Nations championship. Moreover we always leave the world championship during the first phase.

  8. Bummer! As for that miracle second job - how about tutoring or personal trainer? You are amazing at both of those things! For me - I have been seriously considering house cleaning as soon as this move is over. -Hey on the bright side you saved the oldest from getting into too much trouble and you saved money on the hotel!

  9. Well that sucks. Part of life. I'm sure your kids are pretty good sports, despite the sadness.

  10. Sorry they lost - but top 8 in state is pretty darn great!

My Munchkin saw the pic and asked "Is that me or Tazer?" - guess he knows that face :)
